Math & Science ⇒ How to tag/label rows in equation?

I haven't been able to find a solution for this: I'd like to use the aligned environment, but with the ability to label EACH row. So for example,

1 = \left\{
   \begin{aligned}
      1 \\
      2
   \end{aligned}
\end{equation*}

Except each row is labeled. How would I do this? Yes, if I didn't have that left brace, life would be easier (I could just use an align environment)
