It sure is difficult to follow the documentation to get started.

Take the Introduction:

In LyX, you go to the pull-down on the far left of the button bar and select Section, and type “Introduction.”

I'm using LyX 1.6.1 and I have three toolbars. I don't know which is called the button bar but none of them offer a pull down with "Section".

Take the Tutorial:

The example files can be found in the examples directory of LyX's installation folder.

Where the heck is the Installation Folder?

As of this date 28 people have read my previous post but none have been able to enlighten me about the absurd situation with the "print" command.
Are they all baffled or is it just me?

Using LyX 1.5.6 on a Mac, I see this:

The pull-out menu is marked with a red ellipse at the top-left corner.

That depends on platfoms. I can explain that for Mac OS X, if you want.

That was a nice reply by Juanjo; the reason for my first banal complaint was that I didn't realise the menu is only activated if a file has been loaded.

Now will someone, anyone, please tell me where, on my Winows Vistais is the "Installation File" vaguely referred to by the Tutorial. It comes to something when I have to ask for help to read the Help files.

In the meanwhile, you can download the examples folder from here. To reduce file size and be able to upload, I've deleted files in languages other than english and compress into zip format.
