Lyx Installer gets stuck

Hi everyone

I need help with this. I downloaded the LyxWinInstaller from http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Windows .

My installer gets stuck in a line that says

Executing "C:\Program Files\Lyx 1.5rc1-31-05-2007\Resources\configLyx.bat" .

It has been like this for the last ~6 hrs. Can you tell me what's wrong with the installation? I remember having done it once about a year ago and it didn't have this problem...

I guess it's because you tried to install a release candidate (Lyx 1.5rc1-31-05-2007) and not the actual stable version (1.4.4-5) for Windows.

Well, I have excatly the same problem, and I'm using the LynWinInstaller v2.16 installing Lyx 1.4.4 <sigh> It seems to be hanging in the Python configuration script, but I'm no Python guru so I can't work out what it's having problems with. Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

(FYI, I'm using MikTek 2.6, and have ImageMagick 6.3.4 and GhostScript 8.57 installed as well)

I just installed 1.4.4-5 via the Standard Web Installer without any problems...

Yeah, I tried that too ... in fact, that was the first one I tried. With this one, the installation went well, but then the program wouldn't run. Period. Just wouldn't go. That's why I tried the LyxWinInstaller instead.

Any thoughts as to where I could start looking?

OK ... I think I might have cracked this. I never realised until just now reading on lyx.org that during the initial startup/configuration, Lyx asks MiKTeX to download packages that Lyx needs to run

I feel like such a noob ...

Anyway, it turns out that I'd never changed the proxy settings in the MiKTeX updater from when I installed it on my laptop at work, so it wasn't able to update, so I think that's what the problem is.

It's a bit of a pain the Lyx installer doesn't tell you what's going on ... but there's a LOT of network activity now I've re-installed it and am running it for the first time, so here's hoping ...

I'll let you know how I get on (maybe this is something you could look at, tatetitotu)

... and no luck

It seems that it keeps hanging when it executes the Python script to configure Lyx ... but I can't work out why it's hanging.

Oh well. Back to using a text editor ...

(Any other suggestions in the meantime would be most gratefully accepted ...

)

Sorry, no new suggestions from me... I'm really helpless. I just compiled an old Lyx file with the new version and everything is fine.

All what I can say is that my MikTeX system is up-to-date and working perfectly with TeXnicCenter and WinEdt. Imagemagick already was installed prior to the Lyx installation. When installing Lyx I was online so I had no problems with downloading additional packages and Aspell.

My old Lyx version also worked without problems but this wasn't the previous version because it didn't run under Windows. Was it also because of a Python problem? I don't remember but this special problem was mentioned on the Lyx mailing list.

For what it's worth, I finally got it going ... I ended up biting the bullet and download the whole shebang of MiKTeX (the complete installation) and it's going fine (I only had the Basic installation before). This leads me to believe that it was actually a configuration problem on my computer causing the problem, and MiKTeX couldn't download a particular component.

Anyway, hope that helps someone!
