lyx_1.6.0 : Document classes Unavailable

Post by bigbig »

Dear all,
After installing mytek and lyx_1.6.0 on a windows XP, all the documents classes are unavailable.

I googled and did the following steps:

a) Make sure that the MiKTeX bin directory is on my system command path:
-> yes, I can launch latex from anywhere through a console.

b) Reconfigure Lyx by : Tools -> Reconfigure, then restart LyX:
-> no, things are not better

c) Check if for example the class "report" is available.
At a DOS prompt, run 'kpsewhich report.cls'

and kpsewhich returns:
C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\latex\base\report.cls
-> ok the class is available

d) I checked my home directory, which is:
C:\Documents and Settings\me\Application Data\lyx16\

I deleted the entire directory 'lyx16'

Then I run the command:
C:\Program Files\Lyx16\python\python.exe C:\Program Files\Lyx16\Resources\configure.py

And get the following:

Code: Select all

configure: TeX engine needs windows-style paths in latex files

        done
e) Then restart LyX:
-> things are not better. No class is available.

I am stuck and do not know what to do...

Thank you for helping.

He!
Am I the only one faced to this problem ??

If anyone installed successfully Lyx1.6 on XP, please tell me how you did it.

I have also attached the configure.log file if someone could checked it.

Thank you for helping.

A solution will be posted if somebody has got one. Really advanced LyX users are very rare. And I'm not one of them. Perhaps the LyX Mailing List can offer help.

Best regards and welcome to the board

Thank you for your feedback,
Actually I have already post my question over there (Lyx mailing list) but no answer.

When searching this forum (latex-community.org) I found that other members are also faced to the same problem...
Anyway when I got the explanation I will detail it here.

I think I'm experiencing the same problem. LyX won't produce any input or render the help files properly because it can't find the document classes it wants. This happened to me in Vista and carried over to Windows XP. Reinstalling didn't change it.

I installed several lyx over several xp machine and they all work fine. Did you install the full lyx installer which is with miktex together. I did this.

Or did lyx ask you which miktex to use at the beginning of installation? It should.

Hi latex-community,

I eventually made it working by uninstalling lyx completely, deleting ALL user's Lyx directories (.../Application_data/Lyx16) and restart the full installation.
Now it works but I did not understand why...

Anyway I think the problem was related to the fact that I can log in to several different domains (network, local, etc...) with this computer.

It is not really clear to me but here are the facts:

When installed as logged in one domain -> no classes were available. -> No user could use LYX.
But when installed as logged from a different domain (I do not remember if I were logged in locally or on the network) -> the classes became available -> possible to use LYX for all user of the computer.

I hope that makes sense to some expert/developers and possibly they will post the real explanation.

Cheers
Stephane
