LyX ⇒ Hideously annoying LyX class problem
Hideously annoying LyX class problem
I'm brand new to the whole TeX-nology, and after a ton of research yesterday, I settled on LyX as my editor, because I do not have the time to devote to learning the LaTeX syntax. I'm an intern at this company, and I was assigned the task of making documentation for their large and unwieldy business warehousing database software, so after an hour in MS Word, I realized that this project would be painstaking and ugly if I didn't use something more suited.
Anyway, this problem is happening on both of my test machines, on two different engine distros- LaTeX (MiKTeX 2.6) and TeteX, and on two different operating systems, Windows XP and Debian (etch).
Whenever I go to File -> New from Template... and select pretty much any of those files (docbook_article seemed a likely candidate for my task), I get the error message "This document uses a missing TeX class "[name]". LyX will not be able to produce output."
I thought I was so close. Anyway, I scoured google for answers to this problem, and sources were few and far between. I'm hoping someone here has seen this and can give me some guidance.

Re: Hideously annoying LyX class problem
You have two choices get the missing TEX file and install it or use another class
use a class that does not have missing things
Have a try at using Memoir class it produces a document that looks exactly like a book with chapter numbering and indexes all taken care of automatically.
I will be watching for your response so that I can try give further help on Memoir class.
