Hi, I started using LaTeX to write up my linguistics MA assignments then dissertation. I hated the thought of of spending all my time selecting Insert>Symbol then hunting around the symbols for the appropriate IPA symbol which probably isn't there in the font I'd be using anyway in Word, so I thought it was about time I actually tried LaTeX. Now I spend all my time looking up symbols in the marvellous symbols document and searching the Internet to find out how to do just about everything else!
I love LaTeX.

Don't feel bad...everyone has issues with LaTeX. Believe it or not, it does get better! (I keep telling my thesis students this...eventually they believe me...I think).

Thanks, Annabel, and thanks, Keith; and good luck to your students!
I think it's a matter of use-it-or-lose it with me. If I use Latex all the time, I get into it and don't have to look so much stuff up, but if I have a break from it (e.g. I'm reading, not writing), then I have to go back to looking everything up. That's why I started the Latex tips pages on my website!
Cheers,
