Problems downloading MiKTeX packages

Post by samyonez »

hi all

i'm trying to get tex4ht, the LaTeX to HTML package, to work.

i have the "basic" miktex setup; when i run for example "htlatex test" from cmd, it tries to download the necessary package and fails, with the message

"A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond."

it seems to be a problem with downloading packages in general rather than tex4ht specifically. I have tried via the Package Manager, the Update Wizard, and by attempting to install the full MikTeX version; i get the same message.

anyone any ideas? is there any way i can manually add the package by editing config files etc?

Which MiKTeX system do you use? Note that MiKTeX 2.4 is outdated and all repositories are closed. Maybe something similar happened to version 2.5 after the release of the current version.

i have been using 2.5, but installed 2.6 today. the problem seems to occur with either, e.g. i first had the difficulty with 2.5, but now i am trying to use the Update Wizard with 2.6, the same thing happens.

As the error message says, there are difficulties with the selected server. So, choose another one close to your residence with MikTeX settings (tab "Packages").

I reviewed the previous messages from this discussion. When I go to MiKTex >> Settings >> Packages >> Change Package Repository, the same message appears:

"A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond."

Any other suggestions? I currently have MiKTeX 2.7 installed.

Thanks!
