Well, I don't know what a `MikTeX console' is, but if you just downloaded/unpacked the cm-super package, that is indeed not enough.
mktexlsr needs to be called, such that the new files are found and updmap needs to be called, such that the cm-super's map file(s) get considered.
I woul've thought that MikTeX's package manager would take care of all these steps, but then I'm no MikTeX user.

I'm really stupid:(

After refreshing the file name database and font map files (MitTeX console menu -> Task) everything started working.

Thanks to Rainer and Stefan for good advises.
