Last Thursday I vowed never again to touch MS Word...

Post by jacqueline »

I won't actually be allowed to keep this vow, but it afforded some psychic relief to make it; and it is providing further encouragement to be learning something which should make it possible to spend less time being harassed by Word in the future. So, I'm basically a complete newbie with LaTeX, but despite what I've heard of the steep learning curve, it seems to be going pretty well. I'm working on transferring over the document that precipitated the aforementioned vow, and have managed to work in several tables (with labels and references, which I am feeling very enthusiastic about), and a photo, and appendices using TeXnic Center on a Windows XP machine, with MiKTeX as the back-end.

More general information: I live in Minneapolis, MN, USA, and work as an electrical engineer. I use WindowsXP at work, and Mac OSX and Ubuntu at home, which either makes me well rounded or insane (or, more probably, a bit of both). I like beets and brussels sprouts, coffee and ice cream. I use vim (I only mention this, because I find the editor wars vastly amusing). I despise animated "smilies," and will secretly think disparaging thoughts on the probable intelligence levels of anyone who places Things that Blink on any web page ever (very occasional exceptions for ironic usage may exist).

Hello, and thanks for having me!

Many thanks for your introduction and this great first contribution. If we would not talk about LaTeX on this board, I would say: »Try OpenOffice.org!«. But I think you did a good choice. We will try to make your change to LaTeX as smooth as possible so that you won't have too many trouble with it.

Best regards and welcome to the board
