Math Symbols Missing After Being Updated to Win10 1703

Post by SirohAmada »

Hi, LyX users. I was working with LyX 2.0.0 with MikeTeX 2.9 on a Win 10 1511 platform. Last night the notorious microsoft got me by surprise, forcing me to update to the 1703 build. After that, the math symbols in LyX cannot be correctly displayed as shown here:

Fortunately my files can still be compiled so it seems to be a display issue for me. However, I can hardly work without seeing the equations correctly displayed...

I've tried to install the latest LyX 2.2.3, but the display issue remains. I also tried to rollback to the previous windows build but somehow there is no such an option after following the guide of microsoft support (yes, the "go back to the previous version" just xxxxxxxx gone!). I tried to recover my system from my mirror established like 6 months ago, and the system just don't allow me to load from my previous mirror...
Therefore, I would like to know if there are any solutions before I try to reinstall the whole system.

It might be a system font that is missing? I don't know. Unfortunately I've heard about a lot of problems like this on Windows. It looks the same as this one:

I wish I could help more, but I really don't have an idea. If you feel like installing Ubuntu, I could help, but of course it doesn't make sense to install an entirely new OS to fix one issue. Sorry for the frustration, I hope you find an answer. If you do figure it out, please let us know so we can spread the word. Best of luck!

Math Symbols Missing After Being Updated to Win10 1703

Hi, scottkosty. Eventually I have the OS of my laptop reinstalled after a failed attempt to recover the system with an built-in image (moral: don't use the recovery function of win10). Now back to my original problem, I guess that reinstalling the fonts on windows might resolve the problem:

I never have a chance to try it so am not sure if this works. Maybe people with a similar problem can try it if reinstalling MikTeX and LyX doesn't work.

Yes this would be good to know. Also, if anyone is interested in testing 2.3.0rc1 (which will be hopefully released soon), it would be good to know if they can reproduce the problem with that test version (note: it is NOT the final release so only use for testing).

Hopefully we can figure out the root problem.
