Hello there,
I'm having an issue with Miktex 2.7/Winedt 5.5/AdobeReader 8 that's driving me nuts. I would be extremely grateful if someone out there could help me to solve it:
When I compile my .tex file with the PDF Texify button in Winedt, the generated .pdf file pops up. My problem is that it always pop up opened on the first page of the pdf document, which is extremely annoying when you are typing the page 138 or so, cuz you have to waste time scrolling down to find the page of the document you just typed to see how it looks. I should point out that I don't have this problem with Adobe Acrobat Professional. With that one the new .pdf opens in the last page you were viewing before compilation, but I don't have Acrobat Professional at my home PC, so I would like to know if this feature can be implemented with Adobe Reader. I wonder whether this can be solved from Miktex/WinEdt or if it is a purely-Adobe-issue...
Thank you very much in advance!!

If using the hyperref package, you may use the pdfstartpage=pgnumber to open at a specific page. Adobe still doesn't play well with this.
Since you are using Adobe Reader v8, I assume that you just need some sort of pdf viewer to check your work. In this case, may I recommend the free version of Foxit PDF reader (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader ... reader.htm) which always opens to the last page that was viewed.
edit: instead of scrolling you can also just type in the page number in the little page # of # box at the bottom of Adobe Reader window

Re: PDF file opens on wrong page
As an alternative, you could configure GSview as your PDF viewer. It can read PDF files as well as PS files. If you open a file with GSview, it observes the file and reloads it automatically when detecting changes. The opened file is always displayed right at the place where you look at it, without closing the file. So, the behaviour should be the same as if compiling to PS and viewing it with GSview at the same time.

Re: PDF file opens on wrong page
Hey guys,
Thank you very much for your suggestions!
I couldn't make them work though
I tried using pdfstartpage = number. Indeed it opened on the page I entered, but is there a way to make it open in the last page viewed without me having to change the value of pdfstarpage = integer everytime I compile? In practice that is as time consuming as typing the number of the page I want on the little box below the document in Acrobat Reader.
I also tried switching to gsview. I thought that setting gsview as the default program to open .pdf files in Windows would make Winedt understand that I wanted PDFTexify to open the pdf with gs, but it wasn't enough. What I like about the PDFTexify button is that it compiles and opens the document with just one click. I don't even have to close the document before compiling again. Is there a way to make the same with gsview? I mean, without having to press the sequence: tex, dvi-to-ps, ps-to-pdf, etc? Is there a way to make Winedt to associate the pdf file directly with gsview, without intermediate steps?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks again!

Re: PDF file opens on wrong page
I had Adobe Reader 9. Couldnt get WinEdt and Reader 9 to work together to show the last viewed page. So I uninstalled this reader and installed Adobe Reader 7 which works fine. I am not missing any feature from Reader version 9. Being able to see the last viewed page is what was most important to me.
