Line numbers? Error messages?
Don't know about the line numbers, but you can use F9 to find the next error, and F10 for the next warning (those keyboard shortcuts are in the Build menu).

Using Old Style Numerals
After seeing an example on the 'net of a very nice document with old-style numerals, I thought I'd give them a go myself :)
To start with, I'm using the lmodern package, as I like having drop caps and I'm using the lettrine package for that -- and the standard LaTeX font doesn't seem to scale ...

Installation on Windows Server 2003
Hi all
I've successfully installed MiKTeX on my laptop and home computer (both WinXP), and now want to install it on our computer network so that all users can produce PDFs from LaTeX source.

Re: Lyx Installer gets stuck
For what it's worth, I finally got it going ... I ended up biting the bullet and download the whole shebang of MiKTeX (the complete installation) and it's going fine (I only had the Basic installation before). This leads me to believe that it was actually a configuration problem on my computer ...

How many files are there?
Hi there!
I guess you haven't done much reading about LaTeX. May I suggest downloading and reading The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX2e (do a Google search for lshort.pdf). This may do a much better job than I can do of answering your questions!

Lyx Installer gets stuck
... and no luck
It seems that it keeps hanging when it executes the Python script to configure Lyx ... but I can't work out why it's hanging.
Oh well. Back to using a text editor ...
(Any other suggestions in the meantime would be most gratefully accepted ...

Lyx Installer gets stuck
OK ... I think I might have cracked this. I never realised until just now reading on lyx.org that during the initial startup/configuration, Lyx asks MiKTeX to download packages that Lyx needs to run  I feel like such a noob ...
Anyway, it turns out that I'd never changed the proxy settings in ...

Re: Lyx Installer gets stuck
Yeah, I tried that too ... in fact, that was the first one I tried. With this one, the installation went well, but then the program wouldn't run. Period. Just wouldn't go. That's why I tried the LyxWinInstaller instead.
Any thoughts as to where I could start looking?
