you could use the setspace package. Have a look into the setspace.sty file for its documentation.

i tried it but didnt seem to work for me
i put this at the top...
\usepackage{setspace}
then when i wanted to start using double spaces, i did
\doublespacing
\begin{abstract}
text text ...

how do i change the line spacing??

also i want single space on some pages and double space on others

i went to build two pdfs there to show you the difference, but the problem seems to have disappeared for the meantime, i have no idea why?

i have my .tex file in a folder and i use teXnicCenter to build (using mixtex) my .tex file from that folder and then output a pdf. But each time i change my latex file in teXnicCenter i have to go into that folder and delete all the old files from the last build so that it doesnt botch the next ...

q. why does the following table of contents come out wrong??? It just turns out like a paragraph of text.

i dont understand this stuff, i havent got a clue where to start.
