Make one line of an equation smaller
I have an multline equation and one line is too big. There is no way to break it into two lines because it is a very long fraction so I need to make the font size smaller. Is there an easy way to do that?

Changing where \align puts aligned items.
I'm trying to format a proof and I'd like to use \align so that all of the equals signs will line up. Unfortuantely my lines have very long fractions so when I do that \align puts the = in the center of the page part of my lines run off the right edge.

sech(x) and other obscure trig functions
I'm writing a math thesis that is heavy in hyperbolic trig functions. The hyperbolic sine and cosine functions are recognized by typing \cosh and \sinh but \sech is not recognized. I've been simply typing sech(z) for now but in math mode that is italicized and so it doesn't match the rest of my trig ...

Re: Bibtex / Creating a bibliography (major confusion)
This is the document class I am using, it was created by the school for uniform thesis format.

Hello
Hi, I'm writing a math thesis and it is the first non trivial thing I've written in LaTex (I'm kind of the pencil and paper type when it comes to math). I've picked it up very quickly for the most part, and I'm writing within a document class and template provided by the school (they like uniformity ...

Bibtex / Creating a bibliography (major confusion)
I'm writing a thesis and I'm doing fine with the rest of the LaTex for the most part but I can't figure out how to make my bibliography work. Here's what I'm doing, perhaps you can tell me what part of it is profoundly wrong.
Here is my (abridged) thesis code:
