I posted this in the texlive forum but got no responses so I'm going to try here (sorry!).
I've downloaded and burnt texlive but I don't have root access on my server. Is it still possible to get it to work? Can I put tex somewhere else and set PATH? Without root access can I do *anything* about ...

Installing texlive without root access or access to /usr/

At the moment I'm using mimeTeX but it's not a particularly good replacement.

I've got SSH access and I've uploaded the teTeX packages but I can't install them to /usr/local because I don't have permissions. Could they go elsewhere?

I have solved the problem! LyX did not like the minus symbol I was using. If I replace the minus symbol with a hyphen it works fine.

I have created a document in LyX but I cannot get it to export at all, in any format.
