LyX 2.2, MikTeX 2.9 updated today, Windows 7 32 bit
I'm working on a book. Compilation never failed up to now. Suddenly error messages concerning the LaTeX preamble appeared (see attachment) although I haven't changed anything in the preamble.
The document doesn't compile at all and throws tons of error messages. It seems LaTeX suddenly doesn't know special characters like ä, ö, ü etc. any more. I checked the coding of all files - they are UTF-8 or UTF-8 without BOM without any exception.
What do you need to help (the whole document, preamble only, ...)?

I'm hoping you have backups? If so, just look at the differences between the last backup that worked and the file now. Figure out which change caused the problems.

Re: LyX error message concerning the LaTeX preamble
"Updated today"? Oh.
Also I hope you have backups. I make copies of versions all the time when I write a book or longer documents. Make a copy of all your documents before trying something else. For example: a PDF copy may still give you the content back if the .lyx file would be destroyed, but another compilation could replace that PDF.
I suggest also to look at the affected .lyx file with a simple text editor, as it should be readable text.
You could post your .lyx file and additonally a pdfLaTeX export file here in the forum, as attachment to a post. (To protect the data, you could remove this attachment later on, or I can do for you)

LyX error message concerning the LaTeX preamble
No, I have no backup. I tried to use the versioning system of LyX, but it failed.scottkosty wrote:I'm hoping you have backups? If so, just look at the differences between the last backup that worked and the file now. Figure out which change caused the problems.
The file I talked about didn't change at least for several weeks. That means: The identical document once compiled and for unknown reasons suddenly didn't...
LyX error message concerning the LaTeX preamble
I've attached the master document of my book and the .tex-export in the LuaTeX-, XeTeX-, PDFLaTeX and normal LaTeX-version.Stefan_K wrote:...

That file seems pretty massive. Please take a look at https://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/MinimalExample
Can you make your example smaller?

Re: LyX error message concerning the LaTeX preamble
I've stopped looking for a solution for the above mentioned errors. I simply returned to LyX 2.1.4 - and compilation runs smoothly!
Thanks to everyone who tried to help me! I think the next problem isn't far away. But for now I say: bye and thanks for the fish
