Windows 7 opens several instances of TexnicCenter

Post by jbdreamworksnv »

With my new computer with the latest TeXnicCenter and Windows 7:

When opening a TeX file, TeXnicCenter opens as it should. If I want to open a second file (as a tab in the first TeXnicCenter), another instance of the TeXnicCenter opens ... A bug ... in Win 7 or TeXnicCenter? Or is it my computer's administrator's fault :-) ?

Thx
J

You didn't give information about the version. If not done yet, you may try TXC2 alpha 3 for comparison. It can be installed beside TXC1 RC1. Though in alpha state, it seems to be quite stable (at least on my Wind0ws system²).

Hi, indeed I have the TXC1.0 RC1. Me and my colleagues experience the same problem in Windows 7: Clicking on a tex file everytime opens a new instance of TeXniCcenter.

I rather not install a second TXC, but maybe 'the bug' in RC1 can be corrected for the future? I just wanted to contribute to a smoothly running TXC. Maybe you could try the RC1 and see if you have the same problem?

Kind regards

I don't think so. Development is stopped for TXC1 and now focused on TXC2. And on my Wind0ws system² there's absolutely no problem. As far as I know TXC1 was never meant to run on systems newer than Wind0ws XP (which has been the last OS of this kind on my machine). But there are many alternatives.

(This is just a hunch.)

What most users do not know is TXC's "Project"-function. For my first ~12 months of usage, I didn't know about it either. After that, using the TXC was just great. Never had any real bugs/problem with it.
Meaning: Maybe what you are looking for is its "Project"-function?
