About backing up a project and *TeX packages...

Post by meho_r »

I was wondering what would be the best way to back up a project together with packages used during its creation? Here's the catch: if I create a document using packages xyz, version 1.234 and TL2009, then try to compile that very same document in 7 years from now, with packages xyz, version 6.789 and TL2017, it is almost certain things gonna be messed up, errors will occur etc. So, what do you recommend to do to save current work for safe compiling (and exact replication) in the future without layout and other changes?

P.S. One option would be to save complete TL installation together with a project (or projects) on a DVD, but this is not very convenient.
