Hal Varian's Vertex Package

Post by ushbayev »

Hi. I need help on a package written back in the beginning of 1990s by Hal Varian. It's a collection of Tex Macros that provide various layouts for papers emulating major academic economics journals.

What I would like to do is to recode them to allow use with Latex and Lyx.
Would anyone have an idea of where to start?

Link to the package: www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/plain/contrib/vertex/

Thanks

I think you're in trouble here. This is all low-level plain stuff, and so even getting it to work with LaTeX would be probably more effort than it's worth. Adding in Lyx as well is really asking an awful lot.

Thank you Joseph, I agree completely. However, precisely for this reason I am hoping for the gurus :) to react.

One more thing, do you think it is possible then to at least transform the .sty files provided by Varian into proper document classes and lyx layouts?

As the maintainer of a journal-focussed document class (achemso), I suspect it might be easier to start from scratch using up-to-date LaTeX packages rather than try to get the existing plain TeX stuff working with LaTeX.
