Page Layout ⇒ revtex4 | Switch midway from two Columns to one Column

Hello,
I'm using revtex4,

And I've specified for my document to appear in two columns.

But I want my appendix to be in one column (this is everything appearing after \appendix).

I've tried \begin{widetext} .. but that adds these two braces around my appendix which I don't like.

Is there another way to switch between 2 columns and 1 column for some parts of the document, but not for others ?

The user guide suggests something like this.
