General ⇒ more space before colons

Hi, I've noticed that after some letters I would like more space before colons. Is there a length that stores (and that I could set with setlength) the length before a colon?

If it is not possible to increase the length after a set of letters which I can choose, then I would still love to know if there is a way to increase the space in general (for after all letters).
