Hello from Stockholm

Post by James D »

Greetings everyone,
I am from Stockholm, Sweden. I dove into LaTeX three years ago, when I had to decide as a humanist to find a layout expert to format a complicated book I was composing or to learn LaTeX myself. I have rarely touched Word or any other word processor since that time. I have spent most of my time working with the Ledmac package, for producing critical editions, and am now starting to learn more about inserting images, elegant typography and, what I have found very confusing, using different fonts.

I has been a real struggle to understand the technical language and terminology used in manuals and discussion forums, but this is mostly from my lack of experience with technical matters and my singular background in the humanities (classical languages, manuscript editing in medieval and early-modern Latin, Swedish and German).

With time I hope that I can learn a great deal and be an active member of the LaTeX community.

James D

Hello from Gothenburg

Welcome to the community!

I've found the wikibook on LaTeX to be really good for the first learning experiences. It brings up the fundamentals of LaTeX and gives you a good base for future learning. I too come from the humanities and found it very good. The wikibook covers some of the things you've mentioned. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX

I wish you the best of luck!
