hide section numbering while keeping it in ToC

Post by Tedster87 »

I'm not completely satisfied with the looks of my chapter headers. I wish to have the following appearance:

I then want my corresponding table of contents to look like (dont mind the blue color nor the roman vs. arabic numbering):

So the problem boils down to numbering the chapters in the ToC, while hiding them in the rest of the text. I hope this information is enough to describe my problem. Note that i am at a beginner level when it comes to LyX, and I haven't even touched LaTeX! I'm exteremely grateful for any help!

Not enough information. We really need to know what's going on in the code. In LyX, for an absolute beginner, I guess the best way for us to see is if you go to the View menu, then select Source Pane. It should open at the bottom (you might see just the Source Pane header - click the white line above that and drag up to resize). On the right, there's two pulldown menus - in the second, select Preamble Only. Copy everything that appears in the left column and paste it into a code box in a reply in this thread.
