Error running latex

Post by perrytom »

Hi,

I've updated a bunch of packages and ever since then none of my files would compile. They all bring the same error message:

Error running latex

Post by cgnieder »

I'm guessing something with the update went wrong. The offending command is used in biblatex style files. For example authoryear-icomp.bbx (taken from your log) contains of these lines:

Code: Select all

\ProvidesFile{authoryear-icomp.bbx}
[\abx@bbxid]

\RequireBibliographyStyle{authoryear}

\endinput
The command is defined in biblatex.sty:

Code: Select all

\def\abx@bbxid{\abx@date\space v\abx@version\space biblatex bibliography style (PK/JW/AB)}
You should ensure you've updated all necessary files.

Error running latex

Post by perrytom »

Thank you for your help. I uninstalled all of MikTex since it wasn't updating packages well, deleted all the files it left behind, reinstalled it and updated all the packages. I then found out that they updated biblatex and some of my field weren't correctly formatted. So corrected this. Finally, my files are now updating but biblatex still doesn't work. In particular, the log include this mysterious line:
Package biblatex Warning: Please (re)run Biber on the file:
(biblatex) TEMPerry
(biblatex) and rerun LaTeX afterwards.

does anybody know what that means? How can I run Biber on my file?

You can either run biber on your file the same way you did with bibtex or you can add the option backend=bibtex to biblatexand use it with bibtex as before.

How do I add that option? I only run bibtex on the files through miktex, and I have no option to run biber there. I'm not sure what you mean by that, I guess I just don't know latex well enough.

It's a biblatex option:

Code: Select all

\usepackage[backend=bibtex]{biblatex}
Read the manual of biblatex for details.
