LyX ⇒ problem with float object
problem with float object
Hallo!
From a former teacher I got pattern for a beamer presentation which was created with Lyx 1.6.
Now I try to edit this pattern on Windows 7 with Lyx 1.6.10 and Miktex 2.9 64 bit. But it does not work. I got an error because beamer.layout are unemployable.
A colleague told me he use Lyx 2 and it he have no problems with the beamer.layout.
So I installed version 2.0.4 from Lyx and it works but know my "figure flots" make problems.
In the float objects I load a emf-file und if I scalling it the picture is blurred in compare with the old presentation which I had made.
Another problem is that pdf allocate at once 2,5 MB and before 360 kB. When I open the PDF the slides with the graphics took where long to load.
So what option is be changed beetween Lyx 1.6 and 2.0.4, because in the option dialog I can not see anything.
Tia

Hi Tia,
welcome to the board!
I guess you use LyX on a pdfTeX engine. So try converting your picture to pdf, then load this.

Re: problem with float object
Well, but if I do that I lose the advantages of the vector graphic!
Why it works under Lyx 1.6 so fine?

Re: problem with float object
If you do a proper conversion, pdf is still vector graphic. The quality should be fine. Just give it a try.
Perhaps you used the earlier version of LyX in dvi/ps mode.

Re: problem with float object
I have tried it. I directly export the graphic from MS Visio to a pdf. But the quality of the scalled graphics is not so good as the former version with Lyx 1.6 .
I create both pdfs with View --> ps2pdf with Lyx 1.6 and Lyx 2.0.4. But probably that says nothing about the modus which I used?

ps2pdf says, that you did not use pdfTeX, since the latter doesn't involve ps. What I said was all that I could tell for a general case. Perhaps post your picture and a test example document here, as attachment. A problem can be fixed if the situation is clear.SeeSharp wrote:I create both pdfs with View --> ps2pdf with Lyx 1.6 and Lyx 2.0.4. But probably that says nothing about the modus which I used?

Re: problem with float object
Hi!
I think I have identifier the problem! I think it is Miktex 2.9.
Look at the history auf my experiments:
1. I create the presentation with Lyx 1.6 and Miktex 2.7 on my Workstation --> it works fine
2. At my notebook with Win7 with Lyx 1.6 and Miktex 2.9 I have problems to open the pattern of the presentation --> I installed Lyx 2.0 and I can open it but I have the problem with the images
3. I installed 2.0 on my workstation but I have the same problem (ok maybe it is not Miktex?) but after that I have also troubles with Lyx 1.6
4. so I uninstall all Lyx and Miktex versions of my workstation and install Lyx 1.6 and Miktex 2.7 again but I don't got a server for the repository
so now it does not work on my workstation too
5. I installed Miktex 2.9 on my workstation and with some updates with the repository it works with Lyx 1.6
but i got the same problems with the big images (loading the slide takes very long and the pdf-size increase from 360 kB to 2,5 MB)
6. I entered the repository on my notebook to miktex config and with some updates I can open the pattern with Lyx 1.6 but I got the same problems as on my workstation or under Lyx 2.0
7. I try it on a template from Lyx 2.0 and do it on a zip (testpres.zip). One page 5 you can see my problem

Re: problem with float object
Could you post two .log files as attachments, for both configurations, one log file of the working config and one log file where the output was wrong? I guess there we can see the difference.

Re: problem with float object
Not really
. When you see my post first I uninstalled all versions from my workstation because nor 1.6 or 2.0 does not work
Can you tell me where I find the location of the logfile and the exact filename?

Re: problem with float object
The log file should be in the same directory / folder as the actual document, with the file name extension .log.
