\chapter command does not work

Post by sudesham »

Hello everyone,
been using the \chapter{} command
and the output is not Chapter 1
but just plain text

here is a sample of the code:

Code: Select all

\documentclass[12pt] {article}
\usepackage{amsmath}
\usepackage{amssymb}
\usepackage {Utopia}
\usepackage{setspace}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{chapterbib}
\usepackage{tocloft}
\usepackage{longtable}
\usepackage{url}
\usepackage{booktabs}
\usepackage{float}

%\usepackage[style]{fncychap}
\usepackage[Sonny]{fncychap}

\doublespacing

\begin {document}
\chapter{testing 123}

\end {document}
any assistance would be greatly appreciated

\chapter command does not work

Hi Sudesh,

welcome to the board!

The article class doesn't support chapters. You can use \chapter in the book or report class, for example.

So, change your first line for example into

Code: Select all

\documentclass[12pt]{report}
or use \section instead of \chapter.
