Unregular numbering

Post by auvajs »

For some reasons, I want some parts of a document (e.g. parts or paragraphs) numbered unregularily - so not 1,2,3,4,5 but like 1,2,7,6,4,3,5,8,9,10,11...

Let's say I started a document with regular (automatic) paragraph numbers 1,2,3,4,5 but now I need to make a new version and move paragraph 3 to the end (to position 6) but let the paragraph numbers unchanged... (and some more similar changes as well)

I would also like to know how to add additional paragraphs into an existing list and name them accoring to set rules - e.g. I have paragraphs 1,2,3,4,5 and I need to insert some new paragraphs between paragraphs 3 and 4 and call them 3a, 3b, 3c etc..

how to do that? (preferably in LyX)

You could modify the corresponding counter, using LaTeX-Code: \setcounter or \addtocounter, such as

Code: Select all

\setcounter{part}{7}

As you would like to have static numbering, just don't use automatic numbering. You could use "unnumbered" headings but write numbers in the title text. Unusual, however you don't want automatic numbering.
