Limit on Number of BibTeX Database Entries

I'm working on a bibliography with a lot of entries.

Yesterday I added an entry and the bibliography no longer compiled. Here's the weird part. When I delete an entry, any entry, the bibliography compiles. It's like it just got too long.

When I run BibTeX, the error message is:
Nontop top of string stack---this can't happen
*Please notify the BibTex maintainer*
(That was a fatal error)
Any advice?

I'm having the exact same issue. It started failing after 40 references. I'm using kile under Ubuntu 11.04.

Any help is appreciated :-/
