Line numbering alternatives?

Post by hardcoreUFO »

Are there ways of adding line numbers to documents other than using the lineno package? lineno completely messes up my page layout, leaving a massive gap between the top of the page and the first line. I've searched high and low for a solution, but have come up empty.

Thanks in advance.

Line numbering alternatives?

Post by Stefan Kottwitz »

Hi,

I used only lineno for numbering before. Maybe you already know them: there are some examples listed in the TeX Catalogue: Line and Paragraph Numbers.

Thanks for the suggestions, but there do not seem to be any viable alternatives.

I'm wondering why I am having such issues with lineno in the first place, however. Any document that I attempt to use it with generates pages with the top quarter of the page completely blank. No error messages or warnings, just bad layout. Any suggestions?

BTW, I tried using the numline macro as well, which eliminates this problem, but causes my abstract to disappear (?!?). Are there no robust line numbering options for LaTeX? I find this hard to believe.

Thanks.
