Hi All,
I'm writing a thesis, and want to use a custom document class for my school (ucbthesis.cls), which appears to be based upon the report class. This class gives me school-specific formatting for my title and other pages. I do not, however, want to break my thesis into chapters -- I want sections only.
Does anyone have any ideas about a simple way that I could continue using this custom report-based document class, but not get chapter numbering in my table of contents, page headers, etc? Currently all my sections are numbered 0.1.1, 0.1.2, ... 0.8.
Thanks!

Re: no chapters in report-based thesis
This might be irrelevant for this forum, but assuming your thesis is going to be a rather large document it is probably most convenient to use chapters.
Anyway, you could try to recreate the ucbthesis class, but then based on the article class (try having a look in the ucbthesis.cls file)

Re: no chapters in report-based thesis
There will be certain demands to the appearance of your thesis. This is why your school directs you to use this class. So I guess that every variation won't be allowed. Clarify this point with your supervisor before doing any changes to the structure of your thesis.
