Installing the Beamer class, please HELP.

Post by helllo »

Hi everyone :) ,

I am unable to install the Beamer class to do lateX presentations because I just don't find the file where I'm supposed to put all the files of Beamer (including beamer.cls).
(see page 12 here http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macr...ruserguide.pdf, the problem is that I don't find those texmf trees in my computer)
I have been trying to get this working for a while now  , if someone could help, it'll be great ;)
Thanks.

Hi, if I understand what a "TeX system" is, then I'm using :
Texmaker.

No, you don't. That's your editor. The question was for your LaTeX distribution. Without that your editor won't work.

Hello, thanks for the reply. :)
I'm not sure what my "TeX system" is, but there is a file in Program files which is named MikTeX 2.6.
Is this my TeX system :? ? If no, can anyone explain how do I know what my teX system is :( ?
Thanks.

NB. I have tried to put the "beamer class" files in there but it didn't work.

This LaTeX system is outdated and the repositories are closed. Get the current version 2.8 from the MiKTeX Servers [1]. With the new version and its package manager you will be able to install very easy. Note that its better to use the tools in their »Admin« version.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Where all the programs are located. In the »Start« menu (subfolder »MiKTeX 2.8«).

I'm not sure if you can incorporate the old 2.6 packages. If necessary, look at the documentation [1]. Of course you can also uninstall the old system. The final decision is up to you.

Hi,
well I uninstalled version 2.6 and installed the 2.8.
Problem is :
I've just tried to pdflatex a file that I had (and that worked before) but it stopped saying a file named natbib.sty is missing  and that I could install it but then when I click install, it doesn't work. (it says that it cannot find some file).
hmm ... any idea how to fix this :( ?
Thanks.

Package installation on-the-fly depends on the MiKTeX settings [1]. Issues should only occur in conjunction with TeXnicCenter (TXC) [2]. If the problem persists, consider a full installation and keep your system up to date.
