I need to use the following in formatting my document:
\documentclass[12pt]{article}
how do I do this with LyX?(Where shoud I paste this?)

Hi,
in the LyX menu click Documents/ Settings, in the upcoming windows choose "article" in "Document Class" and choose "Base Size" 12 in "Fonts".
