So I am not very good at using latex but I have made a few documents and I am trying to improve my setup.
Here are the exact instructions I received with the new stuff I want to use and I have no idea what they mean:
1. Place AEA.cls in your TEXINPUTS path.
2. If you do not already have these files in your TEXINPUTS path, place them there:
tcilatex.tex
multicol.sty
setspace.sty
harvard.sty
What is TEXINPUTS path?
Also I have a "test" tex file that uses all this stuff so I can check if it is working correctly. I can post that is you need it to help me out.
My guess is that I need to determine which folder to put these files in so they can be found but ...
So I am using a PC with MikTek 2.7 and I have both winedt and texnic center.
Thanks for any help I can get here.

Hi elephant,
welcome to the board!
You could use the MiKTeX package manager for most LaTeX packages. Just click on Start/MiKTeX/Browse Packages if they weren't installed automatically.
Regarding special classes or packages instead of repeating existing explanations I recommend to look at Installing things on a (La)TeX system. In short:

- create a new directory below C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\latex, name it for example like the class or package,
- copy the .cls or .sty files of this package into this new directory,
- open MiKTeX Options (start menu) and click the Button Refresh FNDB to rebuild the package database.

Hey thanks. I was just about to post I guessed my way into fixing it. I had done what you suggested except the last step where I Refresh FNDB. In my random desperate button pressing I actually got this part correct, but until I had installed my cls file in every directory under miktex to be sure it was on the correct path.Stefan_K wrote:Hi elephant,
