Post by earthcat »

Hello, right now i am using Ubuntu 16.04 (long time support) and i have latex with Kile editor.
I am going to change to kde neon plasma 5.8 operating system. In this operating system can i install latex? and how.
Also which latex editor do you recommend for this?

Latex in kde neon

Welcome to the forum!

KDE Neon is based in Ubuntu, so you can install LaTeX the same way as on Ubuntu. However, you may not get the newest version, since Neon is based on the LTS 16.04, currently.

You can install the original TeX Live, instead of the older version from the Ubuntu repositories. Kile is a nice editor, and a natural choice since you are using KDE neon and it's a KDE based editor. If you install the original TeX Live, just take care that installing KDE doesn't have a dependency to Ubuntu TeX packages, otherwise they get installed too, resulting in a conflict.

Hi. At this moment Kile hasn't been ported to Plasma 6 yet (https://discuss.kde.org/t/kile-not-runn ... neon/13871), so you have to use another editor for now. I'm using TeXstudio, but I'll also like to hear what editors others are using (QT-based, if possible).
