pdfLaTex not properly configured

Post by Jerry »

Hello. I recently installed TexWorks and MikTeX on my Mac Mini (MacOS Mojave 10.14). I got a document to work perfectly (a test for my students). I started another document and when I tried to typeset it, I got the error message "pdfLaTex not properly configured". When I go to the drop-down menu where pdfLaTeX appears, it and all the other options are grayed out.

I went back to typeset the first document, and though I'd changed nothing, I got the same message. I've done nothing that I can imagine would change any configuration.

In case it matters, I'm also trying BaKoMaTex Word, though I don't believe I touched it between the time my test worked and the time it didn't.

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Bakomatex is a commercial product and mostly off-topic here.

Back to miktex on a mac ... Can you call pdflatex via a terminal? Command line
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.

I wonder that it's MikTeX? Perhaps you mean MacTeX?

If it's MacTeX, you could start the TeX Live manager (via the Launcher, just type "TeX" and see whats offered) and look if this one helps you.

pdfLaTex not properly configured

Thank you for the replies, Johannes_B and Stefan Kottwitz. I didn't succeed in following either of your suggestions, but on a whim I tried starting TexWorks from MikTeX Console, and it worked! Maybe that's what I'd done before. So there's no problem right now.

If you're curious, Stefan, I chose MikTex because that's what I have on my Windows machine at work.

Thanks for providing this site!

thanks Jerry.
Yes, invoking TexWorks from MikTex console actually solves the issue :)
