Short Citations for all References

Postby wiebke » Tue Apr 16, 2013 1:47 pm

For creating my bibliography, I use the apacite package with the natbibapa option (I prefer the author/year citation format and like the options given by the \citep, \citet etc. commands). However, I do not like apacite's "habit" of including full author lists (I know including full author list for the first citation is standard, but I have a limited page count and am not forced to use any standard).

I found the \shortcites command, it does essentially what I want. However, for a long document with many references, it is painful to maintain that manually (reminds me somewhat of the old W0rd days).

What I would like is an option to include the full list of references in the \shortcites command automatically (I tried using a wildcard *, but that doesn't work).

As an alternative, setting the maximum number of authors that will be cited to two (like the maxname option for biblatex) would also work, but I didn't find that in the apacite documentation.

My minimal working example:
  1. \documentclass[
  2. parskip=half,
  3. open=right,
  4. numbers=noenddot,
  5. toc=bibliography,
  6. listof=totoc,
  7. captions=tableheading
  8. ]{scrartcl}
  9. \usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
  10. \usepackage[ngerman,english]{babel}
  11. \usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc}
  12. \usepackage[natbibapa,nodoi]{apacite}
  13.
  14. \begin{document}
  15.
  16. Without shortcites:\\
  17. First citation, more than 6 authors: \citep{A}, \\
  18. Second citation, more than 6 authors: \citep{A}, \\
  19. First citation, more than 3 but less than 6 authors: \citep{B}, \\
  20. Second citation, more than 3 but less than 6 authors: \citep{B}, \\
  21. First citation, less than 3 authors: \citep{C}, \\
  22. Second citation, less than 3 authors: \citep{C}
  23.
  24. \shortcites{A, B, C}
  25. With shortcites (this is what I want):\\
  26. First citation, more than 6 authors: \citep{A}, \\
  27. Second citation, more than 6 authors: \citep{A}, \\
  28. First citation, more than 3 but less than 6 authors: \citep{B}, \\
  29. Second citation, more than 3 but less than 6 authors: \citep{B}, \\
  30. First citation, less than 3 authors: \citep{C}, \\
  31. Second citation, less than 3 authors: \citep{C}
  32.
  33. \bibliographystyle{apacite}
  34. \bibliography{MWE_shortcite.bib}
  35. \end{document}

And the bibtex file:
  1. @ARTICLE{A,
  2. author = {FnameA1 LnameA1 and FnameA2 LnameA2 and FnameA3 LnameA3
  3. and FnameA4 LnameA4 and FnameA5 LnameA5 and FnameA6 LnameA6 and FnameA7 LnameA7},
  4. title = {BlablaA},
  5. journal = {Mag1},
  6. year = {2011},
  7. volume = {1},
  8. pages = {1-2},
  9. }
  10.
  11. @ARTICLE{B,
  12. author = {FnameB1 LnameB1 and FnameB2 LnameB2 and FnameB3 LnameB3
  13. and FnameB4 LnameB4 and FnameB5 LnameB5},
  14. title = {BlablaB},
  15. journal = {Mag2},
  16. year = {2011},
  17. volume = {1},
  18. pages = {1-2},
  19. }
  20.
  21. @ARTICLE{C,
  22. author = {FnameC1 LnameC1 and FnameC2 LnameC2},
  23. title = {BlablaC},
  24. journal = {Mag2},
  25. year = {2011},
  26. volume = {1},
  27. pages = {1-2},
  28. }

Any help is greatly appreciated!
