Use of Year in Bibliography Item

Postby brambles87 » Mon Feb 25, 2013 12:28 am

I am new to LaTeX and struggling to create a bibliography with apacite. I have spent some time struggling with the documentation to no avail. I don't know if it is a really basic mistake I am making or something wrong with the package version or something (2013-02-24).

Anyway, I get three errors no matter what I do and I can't make sense of any of them:
  1. ! Use of \@year@ doesn't match its definition.
  2. ! Undefined control sequence.
  3. ! You can't use `\relax' after \the.

MWE:
  1. \documentclass[11pt]{article}
  2. \usepackage{apacite}
  3.
  4. \begin{document}
  5.
  6. some text
  7. \cite{ahu61}
  8.
  9. \bibliography{testbib}{}
  10. \bibliographystyle{plain}
  11. \end{document}

..and "mytestbib.bib" in the same folder contains just this:

  1. @article{ahu61,
  2. author={Arrow, Kenneth J. and Leonid Hurwicz and Hirofumi Uzawa},
  3. title={Constraint qualifications in maximization problems},
  4. journal={Naval Research Logistics Quarterly},
  5. volume={8},
  6. year={1961},
  7. pages={175-191}
  8. }

Any help would be much appreciated!

Neil

According with the guide of the apacite package, you should use the apacite bibliographic style:
  1. \bibliography{testbib}
  2. \bibliographystyle{apacite}

Please note that there were two spurious braces at the end of the first line.
