Hi.

Is there a way to select mark a segment in the pdf document and open the relevant part in a latex document with the same name?

That depends on the used editor and PDF viewer. With TeXworks and its embedded PDF viewer that's no problem. TXC 2 alpha 1 in conjunction with SumatraPDF also does.
