Installing a font

Postby bertibott » Fri Feb 15, 2019 5:46 pm

Hi, so I have been trying to create a new environment.
For said environemnt I would like to use a special font. (This one: http://www.tug.dk/FontCatalogue/janaskrivana/)

Evn though the descirption said it was part of TexLive when I try to use it I get an error message.
 1. \usepackage{aurical}
 2. \usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
 3.
 4. \newtcolorbox{mybox}{enhanced, interior style tile={width=15cm}{parchment.png},
 5. font = \Fontskrivan}

Errormessage:
 1. File 'aurical.sty' not found.

So..... I figured that the package is just not installed... And so far I have not been able to find out how to install a package...
What do I need to do?

Hi!

Which TeX installation do you use? TeX Live, MiKTeX, MacTeX, or a Linux version?

So you can use the TeX Live manager (tlmgr) and install the package with the name aurical.

mhmh... I tried that but it comes back with an error...

 1. sudo tlmgr install aurical
 2. [sudo] password for bertibott:
 3. (running on Debian, switching to user mode!)
 4. Cannot determine type of tlpdb from /home/bertibott/texmf!
 5. cannot setup TLPDB in /home/bertibott/texmf at /usr/bin/tlmgr line 6424.

I don't really know what that means... but I am very sure that the path /home/bertibott/texmf doas not exist.
What is a TLPDB?

TLPDB sounds like TeX Live Package Database.

Did you install vanilla TeX Live, so from a DVD or over the Internet, or did you use Debian or Ubuntu repositories for installing TeX Live?

I installed "manually" using this guide: https://www.tug.org/texlive/quickinstall.html

Basically I ran the installer:
 1. sudo ./install-tl

And then set the PATH-thingy:

 1. PATH=/usr/local/texlive/2018/bin/x86_64-linux:$PATH

The OS I am using Kubuntu 18.04

Initialize the TeX Live user tree, at the command line by:

tlmgr init-usertree

that gives me this:

 1. sudo tlmgr init-usertree
 2. [sudo] password for bertibott:
 3. (running on Debian, switching to user mode!)
 4. /usr/bin/tlmgr: Initialization failed (in setup_unix_one):
 5. /usr/bin/tlmgr: could not find a usable xzdec.
 6. /usr/bin/tlmgr: Please install xzdec and try again.
 7. tlmgr: Couldn't set up the necessary programs.
 8. Installation of packages is not supported.
 9. Please report to texlive@tug.org.
 10. tlmgr: user mode database already set up in
 11. tlmgr: /home/bertibott/texmf/tlpkg/texlive.tlpdb
 12. tlmgr: not overwriting it.

do I need to run this in a specific directory?
how do I install xzdec? And what is that?

xz is a compression format, and xzdec is a tool for decoding it. You need to install it on your Kubuntu system:

sudo apt-get install xzdec
