Working with special characters in german

Postby Murd » Wed Aug 29, 2018 8:55 pm

Hey!

I'm currently working on a document on which I would like to use the font "Charter". I got everything in place by using:
  1. \usepackage{charter}

The only thing that does not work is the german "ß". It gets replaced by "SS". After quite a lot of searching nothing seems to work. I've already tried the following setup:

  1. \documentclass{scrartcl}
  2.
  3. \usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
  4. \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
  5.
  6. \usepackage[ngerman]{babel}
  7.
  8. \usepackage{charter}
  9.
  10.
  11. \begin{document}
  12. ß, ä, ö, ü
  13. \end{document}

This is what I get:

Hope for some advice!
Thank you!

Hi Murd!

Your code should work with pdfLaTeX.

I think you are using XeLaTeX. In that case, instead of

  1. \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
  2. \usepackage{charter}

write

  1. \usepackage{fontspec}
  2. \setmainfont{XCharter}

Or use pdfLaTeX.
