### Aligning the identifier of numerous problems.

So I have about 9 problems written out horizontally in a page, however, the part that identifies them ( (1), (2), etc.) are not aligned. So far the closest to this I can do is 2 columns by 2 rows of problems, but when I start to add more columns/rows then the alignment goes away. I'd like for the equations to be aligned too, but honestly I'll settle with aligning just the numbers that identify them.

Also, when it comes to the \begin{align*} environment when am I supposed to use the & key? What exactly does that do?

Welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to say, that just from reading your code, i have no idea what your input, nor your output is looking like.
Can you add a small but compilable example that reproduces for us, what you see?
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.

Welcome to the forum!

The & marks the relation symbol where the alignment should be.
