New Members ⇒ Easy way to use LaTex?

Hi, I'm new here.

I am a math and physics major and I have always wanted to write up wonderful looking papers using LaTex. But there seems to be a problem, the last time I tried to use LaTex it was very complicated for me to use. It felt more like "programming" instead of actually writing a paper.

I have been using Math Type in Microsoft Word for the past few years and it has worked just fine. But now I want to submit a paper to arxiv.org or maybe even a math journal and I want the document to look very nice.

So my question is, has anyone developed a newer version of LaTex where you can click on buttons to create your math equations instead of writing them out in the special code which LaTex uses. The last time I checked I had to write $$ code $$ every time I had write an equation.

Again I'm looking for a more user friendly way of creating math equations similar to how Math Type functions.

Also do anyone have any advice on how to submit a paper to arxiv.org as this will be my first math paper.

If you should nevertheless "program" with LaTeX, please avoid starting or ending the display mode for equations with $$.

Some hints:

• Why is \[ … \] preferable to $$ … $$?
