Guide to choose the right (Sub)forum for your Post

Post by Sven »

The following is a guide to the right forum for your topics.

Please read this guide before posting new topics!

The LaTeX-Community discussion board is separated into five main categories:

LaTeX Community
This category is not for LaTeX-related issues, but for issues regarding this community itself. Read the forum descriptions to get an idea of what they are meant for.

Please do not post LaTeX related issues into this category.

LaTeX
The LaTeX category is the one where topics related to LaTeX itself go. Not distribution specific topics, not editor specific topics, only topics related to the LaTeX core, to document classes and packages.

Follow these rules to find the best matching LaTeX forum:
  • Topics regarding fonts and character sets (e.g. things like code pages and how to use language specific characters) go to
LaTeX > Fonts & Character Sets
  • Topics regarding text formatting (e.g. bold, italic, enumerations) go to
    LaTeX > Text Formatting
  • Topics regarding formulas, graphs and other math or science related issues go to
    LaTeX > Math & Science
  • Topics regarding graphics, figures and tables go to
LaTeX > Graphics, Figures & Tables
  • Topics regarding page layout (e.g. header and footer lines, page numbers) go to
    LaTeX > Page Layout
  • Topics regarding the creation of document classes go to
    LaTeX > Document Classes
  • Topics regarding other LaTeX stuff not fitting into one of the above mentioned forums go to
    LaTeX > General
LaTeX’s Friends
This category contains forums for software tools related to LaTeX. No general LaTeX issues should go here – only issues related to one of the tools.

LaTeX Distributions
To use LaTeX, you need a LaTeX distribution like for example MikTeX for Windows or teTeX for Linux. The LaTeX Distributions category provides forums for distribution specific discussion.

Please only post topics that are specific to the distributions (like for example installation issues, package management) to this forum. No general LateX topics should go here – use the forums in the LaTeX category instead.

If you are looking for help to choose the best suited distribution for you, or if you have tips for other users for the best choice, the LaTeX Distributions > Decision Guidance forum is the right place to go.

For the most used LaTeX distributions there are dedicated forums. If there is no matching one for your distribution, choose the LaTeX Distributions > Others forum.

LaTeX Editors
Specific LaTeX editors like for example TeXnicCenter will ease your daily work with LaTeX. The LaTeX Editors category provides forums for editor specific discussion.

Please only post topics that are specific to the editors (like spell checking, shortcuts) to this forum. No general LateX topics should go here – use the forums in the LaTeX category instead.

If you are looking for help to choose the best suited editor for you, or if you have tips for other users for the best choice, the LaTeX Editors > Decision Guidance forum is the right place to go.

For the most used LaTeX editors there are dedicated forums. If there is no matching one for your editor, choose the LaTeX Editors > Others forum.
