TXC in 2023

Postby Tino Weinkauf » Fri Apr 07, 2023 11:16 pm

Hi, it's been a minute.

I took a few days to make the source code compile with the latest Visual Studio 2022 on Windows 10. I also eliminated hundreds of warnings in that process.

It is now possible to start working on the code again. If you want to try, install Visual Studio 2022 (even the free Community Edition should work) with the MFC extension, and compile the code you clone from:
https://github.com/weinkauf/TeXnicCenter

If you do not want to compile it yourself, you find the binaries here. This is not an installer. Unzip and run the executable:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/texniccenter/files/TeXnicCenter%20Alpha/TXC_203PreAlpha.zip/download

I don't think you gain anything over the old version 2.02. No new features have been implemented. I may have accidentally fixed a bug, though. I may also have introduced new ones. Hence, it would help me if you could try it and respond with whether it runs on your system or not.

To be safe, backup (export) your registry settings for TXC before running the new version:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ToolsCenter\TeXnicCenterNT

Shoutout to OgreTransporter who did a similar process for Visual Studio 2017 a few years ago. That was very helpful.

This is great!
I tried it and it works. Well, almost. One needs to add libiconv files to compile.
