So how did you fix the problem?
I've got the same problem here with MikTeX 2.5.2580 and TeXnicCenter 1 Beta 7.01.

In LaTeX => DVI mode it seems to create a pdf and no dvi. The log says

  1. This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.30.6-2.2 (MiKTeX 2.5) (preloaded format=latex 2007.2.23) 23 FEB 2007 17:32
  2. entering extended mode
  3. [...]
  4. Output written on out.pdf (7 pages, 59291 bytes).

Which doesn't make much sense as I want a DVI...

i used the report template...
in it a lot of
"\newif\ifpdf
\ifx\pdfoutput\undefined
\pdffalse %%normales LaTeX wird ausgeführt
\else
\pdfoutput=1
\pdftrue %%pdfLaTeX wird ausgeführt
\fi"
stuff
seems to decide by itself whether it creates a dvi or pdf

to make it short...
i deleted all "*pdf*" stuff

I've had this code in my sources:

  1. % will be used further below.
  2. \newif\ifpdf
  3. \ifx\pdfoutput\undefined
  4. \pdffalse % we are not running pdflatex
  5. \else
  6. \pdfoutput=1 % we are running pdflatex
  7. %\pdfcompresslevel=9 % compression level for text and image;
  8. \pdftrue
  9. \fi
  10.
  11. ...
  12.
  13. \ifpdf
  14. \usepackage[pdftex,pdfauthor={\autor},pdftitle={\titel}]{hyperref}
  15. \fi

It seems as LaTeX would automatically create a PDF when the package hyperref is loaded with the option pdftex.
But this package should only be loaded when we're running pdflatex. So apperently the pdflatex-detection (ifpdf) seems to be wrong.

So I removed the code for the detection and just loaded this package, which does the same:

  1. \usepackage{ifpdf}

Now the code at the bottom works and I get DVI and PDF as wanted. Smile
