LaTeX for magazine creation

Postby andydrizen » Sun Jan 13, 2008 12:23 pm

Hey,

I am looking for the best LaTeX editor (or other software package with a LaTeX plugin) that will allow me to create a magazine.

To be precise, I want to be able to set pictures in specific places, make fancy borders on each page - everything that you would see in a regular magazine - but I want the text to be parsed using a LaTeX editor.

I'll appreciate any help!

Andy

You may use the paperTeX document class. Here you can find an example from its author. And here and here you can see real magazines done with paperTeX.

No, I don't know how to do that Crying or Very sad Perhaps there is something about borders in the documentation of paperTeX. If not, try to contact the author. This is his web page. Or search yourself in the CTAN Catalogue.

Gut reaction, fwiw: Why bother? Use the best tool for the job. For magazine production, Adobe, Adobe, Adobe...

Because Adobe’s products tend to be bloated and dysfunctional, and only run on certain platforms? Because LaTeX is free and open source?

I don’t have experience with this, but you might look into something like xwatermark for doing page borders. I mention this because I notice its documentation has page borders, created by it I presume.
