Problems using BiBTeX with TeXmaker

Postby Trine » Tue Dec 18, 2007 1:58 pm

Hi

I am having problems using BiBTeX with TeXmaker. Before I started using Ubuntu, I was using MikTeX and Texniccenter i Windows, in which I had no problem using BiBTex.

I simply can't make it work now! And I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

I have done following, saving an individual .bib file with this: in it

  1. @Book{x,
  2. ALTauthor = {kanf kfesk},
  3. title = {mgjfhd},
  4. publisher = {ababa},
  5. year = {2020},
  6. }

then I have put this in to my document, having tried to place it both before and after the \begin{document} and in my preamble (not all at once, mind).

  1. \begin{document}
  2. \bibliographystyle{plain}
  3. \bibliography{litteratur.bib}
  4.
  5. \cite(x)
  6. \end{document}

I have also tried to change the bibliographystyle, with no effects at all.

Compiling several times does not work, nor does compiling the .bib file, and the the .tex file

Now what?

Trine

Read first the following thread about using BibTeX:

Thanks a bunch
Now it works Very Happy

It turned out, after having read the linked post, that I needed to "show" TeXmaker where to find BiBTeX. That of course makes perfect sense - now that I know Wink

Hi Trine,

I've the same problem, I mean, I do the same you did, but the bibliography section doesn't appear neither in the index nor in the document. Would you be so kind as to provide me with more details about what you did?

Thank you very much in advance.

Cheers!

Take a look at the topic linked by Juanjo or refer directly to the CTAN entry of BibTeX.

Thanks a lot!

I think I have walked a step towards the solution :)

I have tried to process my .tex as it is explained in the thread (i.e. (pdf)LaTeX+BiBTeX+(pdf)LaTeX), but when I press F11 (BibTex) I get the error: "Error: could not start the command". I guess that this has to do with my problem :P

Can anybody lend me a hand?

Additional info:

I'm using windos XP y basic-miktek-2.6.2831.

Thank you very much in advance.

Cheers!

I had a similar problem.

I had spaces in my ".bib" files. I removed those spaces.

The compilation succeeded.

Do you mean spaces in the file name?

Please be aware, that spaces in filenames aren't a good idea and can trick lots of software.
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.

Yes, you are correct. The spaces in file names caused the problem.
