Texmaker and TeXstudio ⇒ Texmaker 4.5: PDF creation of templates does not work

Hi,

new in LATEX and in this community pls. forgive possibly the following stupid question...

On a Windows 10 computer I have installed MiKTEX 2.9, together with Texmaker (4.5).
A PDF creation of a simple LATEX document ("article") works fine including PDF-Preview within Texmaker, BUT a template to write a thesis does not work (http://www.latextemplates.com/template/ ... ral-thesis) .
Texmaker starts processing but LOG FILE and output remain empty (see Screenshot 1)

My Texmaker options are set according Screenshot 2.

Open the main file (screenshot one) and press F6. What happens?
What happens if you create a new document, use the very simple thesis template from the Wikibook on scientific reports and press F6 there?

Opening the main file and pressing F6 has the same result as described (i.e. pressing F1) : nothing.

The example "Wikibook on scientific reports" worked fine. PDF created no errors.

However, all other templates like the following ones end up with "nothing" ?

I somehow cannot believe that nothing happens at all. That doesn't make sense.
Open a command line in your template folder and type pdflatex main, what happens after you press enter?

The first link you share, the dissonline template, stay away from it. I don't know the template by Joachim, cannot say much about it. I don't kow the Maggi template, but i would certainly stay away from the classicthesis template.
The Masters-Doctoral-Thesis-Template ... well, i cannot say much about it. I am very biased and against templates in general.

I would probably just use the wikibooks minimal version and work based on it.

Opening a command line with "pdflatex main" results in "displaying some Babel stuff" and then an error message saying "pdflatex does not work anymore" (see attached screenshot).

Do you have an idea what's wrong?

Furthermore thanks, for the advice to start with the Wikibooks' minimal version.
However, it would be quite helpful for newbies on LATEX/Textmaker to get a draft of an document soon and then further elaborate on that.
I can't understand why none of the templates works? Do you know a thesis template that works ?

Your TeX-distribution is screwed, it is very old. Get a fresh install of MikTeX (complete) or TeX Live.

There is no problem with the templates, it is your old installation that is making trouble.

Thank you so much. Installed new MikTex and all (or almost all templates ;o) work fine.
