Texlive installation on MXlinux 19

Postby venik212 » Mon Jul 06, 2020 4:51 pm

I tried to install Texlive 2020 on MXlinux 19.2.
I downloaded the GZ file, extracted its contents, and followed the instructions. Perl and Perl/tk are installed, but when I typed perl install-tl -gui, the gui installer failed to come up, and only the (awful) text version was available.
What do I do to get it installed? I do not want to use the mxlinux repository version.

Welcome to the forum!

I think you need to install the perl-tk packag from the MXlinux repositories to use the installer in th GUI version.

What's the problem using the text installer? Usually you don't need to change any settings but just have to start the installation process. I mostly install TeX Live on servers without using a GUI and AFAIR you need to press only one key (AFAIR »I«), to start the installation. And for updates I really always use the text mode, because »tlmgr update --self --all« is so easy!

The default settings for installation on my system prevent me from using tlmgr-- to get that to work, I always have to change where texlive is installed, and then change the path. I wish it was not so weird, and also wish that the instructions included the tips you (and others) have provided. BTW, if you read my OP you'll see that I had installed both perl and perl/tk.
