Check your output profile, in the "Build>Define Output Profiles>Viewer" menu. And consider using Sumatrapdf instead of Acrobat Reader.

In order to use epstopdf, you need to add the option "-enable-write18" (I assume you use Miktex) to the command line arguments of pdflatex. Go to Build>Define Output Profiles, then to the latex->PDF profile and add "-enable-write18".

You could assign a keyboard shortcut to it. Go in the Customize\Keyboard menu and assign shortcuts to Math\^ and Math\_

You would be much better using sumatrapdf as a pdf reader. You don't have to close the file *and* you get forward and inverse search.

I'm using MiKTeX how can I configure TexnicCenter to use the TeXworks editor?
TxC and TexWorks are both editors, you use one OR the other.
